Boys will be boys...

I know that it is very stereotypical, but when thinking about what defines a little boy, you may picture a muddy and dirty, into everything, trouble-making, but still sweet as ever little child.  Well, you've just described my baby!  I love my 'typical' little guy so much!  This is what a fairly normal, sunny afternoon looks like at our home in small town Minnesota.

First, I dress Brennan in his grubby clothes so I don't need to fight any stubborn mud stains later.  I've already made the mistake of thinking he wouldn't get THAT dirty...  For a minute or two, he may stay relatively clean, until he finds a pot to dig the dirt out of, or a filthy rock to try and eat.  In this picture, Brennan is helping himself to a muddy rock.  (Yes, I'm the bad Mom that grabs the camera instead of the rock!  I did take it away after getting my pictures, but let me tell you- I already know FOR SURE that a little, or even quite a bit of dirt never hurts!)

So, now that Mean Mama took his rock away, he'll have to find something new to do.  Aha!  A doggy door!  He thinks to himself, "I've seen my puppy go in and out of here..... wonder if I can do it!"

"Yes!!!  Success!!!"  C'mon... you can't tell me that's not the cutest little butt.  The dog door is fun for a while, until I get sick of taking the pieces of dog food out of Brennan's hands.  On to the next thing!

Today seems like a perfect day to go for a swing.  Brennan is a huge fan of anything that goes high and fast, so the swing is one of his favorites.  Look at his beautiful long locks blowing in the wind!

I just love this close up picture of his hand.  It epitomizes the words "little boy" for me- the sweet little hands are never empty.  He's always got to be doing something.  The dirt under his fingernails and the grass in the background showing his love of nature and his interest and curiosity about the world around him.

But as cute as the dirt under the fingernails might be, I'm not raising a ragamuffin, as my mom would say.  So this fun day of play in the backyard must end with a fun splash in the bathtub!  He really doesn't look too disappointed to me!  After all, who doesn't like a shampoo mohawk?!?

I love you, sweet boy.  Everyday you remind me of the joys of childhood and life in general.  Thanks for being you!!!

  1. How precious...although I was aching to take that rock away from him in the first pic, but my hand wouldn't go through the computer screen. I love the bath pic...he reminds me of Jack Jack from the Incredibles!

  2. Haha! I know! I think he'd rather eat dirt than just about anything else, and he's not a picky eater! I guess we just don't know what we're missing! Ick. I try to keep him from putting all that nasty stuff in, but it's pretty much impossible! I need to watch the Incredibles again... :)

  5. So cute-I know both of mine would be through a doggy door if we had one especially my littlest since she is always looking for a way to escape. Sometimes I think if anyone stopped by mid-day they would think I was raising urchins since they are both so dirty! But they are having fun!
