Our Anniversary Celebration

As I mentioned in my last post, Friday marked six years of marriage for my husband and I.  I really can't believe how fast the time has passed!  I guess it's true what they say, "Time flies when you're having fun!"

Speaking of fun... we had a lot of fun celebrating our anniversary!  We really just flew by the seat of our pants.  Ryan had to work during the day and I was home with Brennan, as always.  Ryan brought me home a gorgeous rose and orchid bouquet and we exchanged our cards.  We didn't get each other gifts this year.  Instead, we bought ourselves an air compressor!  Yeah... a really romantic air compressor.  We're not practical at all, are we?

Soon we hit the road to drop Brennan off at my parents' for the evening. After that we stopped at our first destination- the Red Wing Shoe Museum.  Ryan and I both grew up in Red Wing, but even though this museum has been open for a couple of years, we still hadn't gone to see it!  It is pretty small, but it just so happens to house the world's largest boot!  I'm not kidding!  The huge boot was constructed at the original Red Wing Shoe Factory by current employees and retirees who volunteered their time.  We had a nice time looking around.

After the museum we headed out for supper.  We went to Applebees and, being the frugal people we are, enjoyed their 2 for $20 deal.  I think it should be called 4 or 5 for $20!  Although it includes an appetizer and two entrees, the meals are each large enough to split in half, at least!  Yum.  We left Applebees feeling stuffed.

We thought it would be fun to go to a movie and we settled on 'Bridesmaids'.  However, when we found out that it didn't start until 9:30 and was over 2 hours long, we decided to skip it.  We didn't really feel like paying $8 per ticket to sleep in the theater.  Instead, we went to Walmart to get the few groceries we needed and rented the movie 'Little Fockers' from the Redbox.  We then picked Brennan up, and headed home.

We saw something really cool on the way home.  On my parents' road, out in the country, we saw a deer and a cat, nose to nose, sniffing each other.  It was the cutest thing I ever saw!  Then, not even half a mile later, there were two baby calves out of their fence playing in the middle of the road.    That was also adorable.  I let the farmers (my parents' neighbors and friends) know, but they already knew.  The little calves wouldn't wander away from their Moms and they would be fixing the fence the next day.

It was an extremely laid back anniversary, but it was really nice.  Really, any time I get to drop the baby off and go somewhere with Ryan it is like a date!

Happy anniversary, Ryan!

  2. Happy Anniversary you two! Vince and I celebrated our 11 years on Friday the 17th. I'm glad to hear you are as practical as we are. We no longer buy gifts for each other (because we agreed that if we need something we would buy it!). And I have forbidden him to by flowers from anywhere BUT Costco, IF he chooses to buy flowers! Since we had an all day wedding video AND photo job the next day, we opted out of celebrating this weekend. We hope to go out to a simple dinner (like you 2 did) next Friday night. I think it's neat that you are so down to earth! Good for you for seeing that it is okay to celebrate your anniversary doing such simple things as shopping at Walmart and grabbing a Redbox movie! It's something I would totally do with Vince. It's just nice to have some time alone! :)
