Toddler Talk Tuesday- B's Imagination

Today's Toddler Talk Tuesday is a little different format than I normally do, but I wanted to share how imaginative Brennan is becoming!  He has started using stuffed animals to act out scenes from movies and books.  Today he had a stuffed lamb and a baby doll.  They were Buzz Lightyear and Jesse, respectively.  It was so cute listening and watching how he made them talk and follow along with the story he was creating.

This evening, we went on a verbal adventure as Mickey, Daisy, and The Golden Boo Boo (you'll only get this if you watch the show).  The funny part was that he was Daisy, I was Mickey, and Bryleigh was The Golden Boo Boo.  He went along with the story, not only through bath time, but even as I left his room after tucking him in, he says, "Tell me, 'Goodnight, Daisy!'"  So I told Daisy goodnight and he, of course, replies, "Goodnight, Mickey!"  So cute.

And now from the cute, to the not-so-cute.  Today, after using the potty, he looks in and goes, "Oh!  It's a shark poop!"  At first I didn't get it, but after further inspection, I could definitely see the resemblance.  Brennan was pretty impressed with himself and his "loooong shark poop".  Boys.

Toddler Talk Tuesday- The Machines

Toddler Talk Tuesday!

The Machines-

Me: Brennan, you are being such a good boy!  Look how well you are eating!  You've become such a good eater lately.
Brennan (mouth stuffed): I'm an eating machine!

Continues to chew.

Me: Haha... Who told you that?!?
Brennan: Daddy!
Me: Well, he was right!
Brennan: Yep.  Daddy said I'm an eating machine and YOU said Bryleigh is a POOPING MACHINE!

Haha!  I'm sure she'll love this someday... :)

Toddler Talk Tuesday- NOT a boy!

NOT a Boy!

The other day I was reading a book  to Brennan.  It was a book that we'd read many times before.   This book...

The conversation/book text went as follows.

Me: A boy needs help and kindly asks-

Brennan quickly interrupts me.

Brennan: That is NOT a boy. (pause) That is a MONKEY!
Me: Yep.  It sure is.

Brennan waits expectantly for something that I'm not sure of...  Finally he continues to read.

Brennan:  A MONKEY needs help and kindly asks, "Can you please get that ball?"
Me: You got it, kiddo.

I can't help but laugh at my little guy...

Toddler Talk Tuesday- He's DEAD!

Boy, oh boy! Doesn't that title sound full of Christmas cheer?!?  Well, you've got Brennan to blame.

He's DEAD!

This morning, Brennan was standing and looking out of the bedroom window.

Brennan: Hey Mom!  There's a squirrel running in the snow!
Me: Wow, cool!  He's so fast!

Brennan: Yeah, he is fast.

Still looking out the window...

Me: How does our snowman look out there?

He is now 2 ball of snow lying on the ground with one arm sticking straight up...

Brennan (without hesitation): He's DEAD!
Me: Yeah, he's not looking very good is he?
Brennan: No, he's not... HE IS DEAD!
Me: That's too bad.  We'll need to build another one when we get more snow.
Brennan: Yeah, we will, but this one is DEAD!!

Yep, got it. :)

Toddler Talk Tuesday- I can do this!

I can do this!

Brennan was playing with his alphabet magnets on the couch when he decided to start shoving them down the crack.
Me: Brennan, don't do that.  We won't be able to get the letters back easily.

He reluctantly stops, thinks for a minute, and then lays down on the floor to reach under the couch for his magnets.  He gets one, tells me what letter it is, and continues on.  After retrieving several of the closest ones, I see him struggling to reach another.

Me: It's hard to get them out now, isn't it.

He suddenly stops, stands up, and with an emphatic motion, proclaims-

Brennan: Don't worry!  I can do this!  I'll move the couch a little bit.

In one fluid motion he springs onto the couch, and slips between the arm and the wall.  Sure enough, the couch begins to budge.  Remember... Brennan is TWO!  It slides out further and further, and with great encouragement from me, he finally gets it moved enough to retrieve the difficult 'J'!

Good job, big boy!

Toddler Talk Tuesday- Naughty Puppies!

Naughty Puppies!

Yesterday, while I was working on putting clothes away in the kids' room, I watched an interesting interaction unfolding.

Brennan: You puppies are being naughty!  You are having a time out!

He gets the timer and puts them on the time out bench.

Me: Brennan, your puppies are in time out?
Brennan: Yep.
Me: What did they do wrong?  How were they naughty?
Brennan: They spanked Bryleigh!!!
Me: Oh, that is naughty!

After a couple of minutes, he pardoned them and let them come out, but soon enough, they were making trouble again.

Brennan: You need a time out!
Me: They were naughty again?!?!  What did they do this time?
Brennan: They spanked Bryleigh!!!
Me: That is so naughty.  I wonder why they are being so naughty...

A few minutes passed and he, again, went to talk to the offending dogs.

Brennan: I'm sorry I had to spank you.  It is not fun.  You are done with time out.
Me: Did the puppies tell Bryleigh 'sorry'?

Brennan proceeded to make the dirty dogs apologize.  Maybe they've learned their lessons.

Belated Wordless Wednesday (Christmas Angels) & Toddler Talk Tuesday- Milk in There & Get Back Here!

Wordless Wednesday- Christmas Angels!

Toddler Talk Tuesday

Milk in There

Yesterday, I noticed that Brennan was sweetly breastfeeding his baby.

Me: Oh, Brennan!  Are you feeding your baby?
Brennan: Yeah.
Me: That's so nice.

He continues to feed her while starting to rifle around with his stuffed Curious George.

Me: Oh, Honey!  Are you going to feed George, too?

He looks at me with a silly expression...

Brennan: Noooo!  George is a monkey!  He's not a baby!

Giggles and wraps up his baby's nursing session.  He then talks to his baby.

Brennnan: Baby, are you full?  (Looks into its mouth...)  Did you get some mook (milk) in there?

Get Back Here!

When Brennan was misbehaving the other night, Ryan brought Brennan to his time-out bench for a little time-out.  As Ryan walked away, we hear Brennan from the other room.

Brennan: Daddy!  I need a cuddle RIGHT NOW!  Get back here!

We made sure to laugh quietly enough that he wouldn't hear us.

Toddler Talk Tuesday- Obviously!

Obviously!-

To start this off, I need to show you a picture of my bedroom wall.  I painted this tree and glued silk flower blossoms to it for a 3D effect...

The other day Brennan came out of my bedroom looking for me.  He held up a small silk flower blossom and put it in my hand.

Brennan: Mama!  I broke this!  The flower falled down.  It was an accident.

Me: It's ok.  Thanks for telling me.  Let's go look.

Walk into the bedroom and start searching for where this blossom used to be...

Me: Brennan?  Do you know where this flower came from?

In his most "obviously..."-toned voice he slowly responded.

Brennan: From the tree...

Oh... you don't say!  :)

Me: Do you know WHERE on the tree this came from?

Brennan: Right there.  (Pointing to the correct place.)

Well thanks.  He probably thinks I'm the dumbest Mom ever now for not knowing where that flower came from when we were looking at a tree full of them.

A Late Toddler Talk Tuesday- The Tape

The Tape-

This story is short but sweet!  Last night at a few minutes after 7:00, I realized that I hadn't set the Tivo to record Dancing With the Stars...

Me: Brennan, I'll turn your show back on in a minute.  I have to tape something.

Brennan runs into the kitchen and starts rifling through a drawer, mostly unnoticed.

Brennan: I got it, Mama!

Me: What do you  have?

Brennan: The tape!  I got the tape for you!

He begins to bring a roll of masking tape over to me.

Me: Brennan, put the tape back.  I don't need to tape... OH!  You are so sweet!  Thank you for the tape!

What a sweet little boy.  He took my request to tape something a little too literally!  :)

Toddler Talk Tuesday! Our "Baby" talk & Getting Bones

Our "Baby" Talk-

The other day, Brennan woke up from his nap a little too early and was crying and whining in his room.  I went in to calm him down and try to get him to go back to sleep.  I crawled into his little toddler bed and snuggled him close.  Our conversation went something like this-

Me: Oh, Brennan.  I love you so much.  You're such a nice guy.
Brennan: And you have a baby in your tummy.
Me: What??
Brennan: You have a baby in your tummy!
Me:  If you say so.  But I sure hope not!  You must really like Bryleigh if you want me to have another baby in my tummy.  Do you want another baby?
Brennan: Yes.

Later on, when Ryan got home, I told Brennan to tell him what he thinks is in my tummy.  Brennan excitedly told Ryan the story.

Ryan: What's in Mama's tummy?
Brennan: There's a baby in Mama's tummy!.... Actually, there's two babies!
Ryan: This just gets better and better!

FYI- THERE IS NO BABY IN MY TUMMY!  I AM ABOUT 99% SURE!

Getting Bones

Lately, we've been working hard on getting Brennan to drink milk from a cup.  He is still hooked on the bottle, but we have successfully taken it away at nap time and replaced it with a cup (which he reluctantly drinks from with lots of prodding) so that he only has morning and night bottles now.  Yesterday, before his nap, we talked about milk.

Me: Brennan, take another sip of your milk.  Remember, milk is good for your body and you need it!
Brennan: Yeah!  It makes me big and strong (shows his muscles) and then I'll get bones!

Cool.  I would have guess he already had a few of those.

The Premiere of Toddler Talk Tuesday!

Lately, I've been thinking to myself that I wish I could remember all of the cute and hilarious things that Brennan says.  It seems that memories fade quickly and things that you think you'll never be able to forget fade and fade until eventually the memories are gone completely.

That's how my new post series, Toddler Talk Tuesday was born!  I know I'll never be able to record all of my kids' fantastic comments, but I hope that this way many of them won't be forgotten!  So to kick off Toddler Talk Tuesday, here are "Jesus and the Juice" and "Naptime".

Jesus and the Juice

It is lunch time.

Me: Brennan, what would you like to drink with lunch?
Brennan: Juice and water.
Me: Sounds good.

I go to the refrigerator and find that we are out of juice.

Me: Oh Brennan, I forgot!  We are out of juice.  You'll have to just have water until we get more.
Brennan: OK.  Just have water.

I sit down at the table and we say our prayers- the common table prayer.  After finishing, I begin to talk to Brennan about what our prayer means.

Me: You know- Jesus is so good to us.  That's why we say our prayers; to thank him.  When we say, "Let these gifts to us be blessed", we are talking about our food.  These (pointing to our meals) our our gifts.  It's important that we thank Jesus for our gifts.
Brennan: Yeah, but Jesus didn't have any juice.
Me: (Trying not to laugh...)  No, he didn't this time.
Brennan:  But... Jesus does have juice at the grocery store!

Naptime

After a mini-breakdown at the post office, I am putting the kids back into their stroller to head home.  Brennan is whining and carrying on.

Me:  Enough whining.  We're heading home.
Brennan: SOMEBODY NEEDS A NAP!
Me: Really?  Who would that be?
Brennan: BRENNAN!  I wanna cuddle with Mickey in my little bed and go night night!

So glad that my 2 year old actually asks for his naps now!  That's a change from 6 months ago!

I hope you enjoyed the first Toddler Talk Tuesday!  Hoping to continue this every week!
